Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer bows out of the NCAA Tournmanent in a 2-0 loss at University of Chicago

Chicago, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder women's soccer team concluded its season on Friday afternoon in a 2-0 loss to University of Chicago in a NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament Sectional Semifinal under brisk and windy conditions on the UChicago campus. Wheaton ends the year 15-5-3, while Chicago (19-2-0) advances to face UW-La Crosse in the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament Sectional Semifinal on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

Today's loss snapped Wheaton's 13-match undefeated streak, that followed after Wheaton's 2-1 loss at UChicago in the regular season on September 26. Pete Felske said of his team and their outstanding season, "I am tremendously proud of our players. I have used the word miraculous to describe the effort they have put in, given a 3-4-2 start to the season and then getting to the 'Sweet 16'. Given the issues we have had to go through over the last six to eight weeks we made a tremendous run."

Chicago controlled the early advantage and capitalized at 19:29 on a go-ahead goal by Maddie DeVoe. The goal was assisted by Katie Jasminski. The Maroons maintained the 1-0 lead for the remainder of the first half.  The Maroons' management of the match was on display as the hosts held a 9-0 edge in shots in the opening half, including 3-0 advantage in shots on goal.

Chicago's Jenna McKinney tallied her 14th goal at 59:06 on a give-and-go situation with teammate Hanna Watkins. McKinney's goal extended the Maroons' lead to 2-0 and the hosts held on to maintain the lead for advancement into the Sectional Final.

Senior goalkeeper Kathryn McGregor made two saves in her 90 minutes of work in the Thunder net for her final appearance in "Orange and Blue". Chicago netminder Katie Donovan played the first 45 minutes in the Maroons' net, with no saves and no goals allowed. Teammate Miranda Malone made one save, playing the final 45 minutes.

Chicago held a 15-1 edge in shots and the Maroons owned a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.
