Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder volleyball team closed out its 2017 season on Tuesday night with CCIW matchup against No. 24 Carthage. The Lady Reds topped the Thunder 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-13) in the CCIW regular season finale for both squads.
Madeline Moore led the Thunder attack with 14 kills. Senior Emily Potts tallied six kills and fellow senior Katie Rohrer registered four kills on "Senior Night" in King Arena.
Kelly Thornton distributed a team-best 18 assists for the hosts. Jessica Bosse and Alecia Funk each had eight digs for the Thunder. Senior Jackie Boulris and Thornton each added five digs. Ellie Brown tallied three total blocks and Thornton had a solo block with an assisted block.
Shannon Kebisek led Carthage with 12 kills and Megan Behrendt tallied 11 kills. Ellie LeCount distributed 40 assists and Laura DeRosales registered 14 digs.
Wheaton led for much of the first set, inlcuding a 16-13 lead. However, from that point the Lady Reds scored six-consecutive points to take a 19-16 lead as the guests earned the 26-20 victory. Moore tallied four kills in the set, while Rohrer and Potts each collected three kills. Thornton had eight assists in the set and Funk led the Thunder with five digs.
Carthage won the second set 25-17 by closing out the set with an 8-2 scoring surge. Moore tallied six of Wheaton's nine kills in the set.
Carthage never trailed in earning the 25-13 victory in the third set. Moore registered four kills for the hosts and Thornton tallied five assists.
