Wheaton volleyball falls to North Park in a CCIW matchup in King Arena

The Thunder volleyball team hosted North Park on Tuesday night for a CCIW matchup against the Vikings. North Park picked up a 3-0 victory with set victories of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-22.
 
28569Madeline Moore led the Thunder with 13 kills in the match. Audrey Irwin added seven kills and senior Katie Rorher added five kills. Alecia Funk led the Thunder with 16 assists and Kelly Thornton had 15 assists. Junior Jessica Bosse had a team-high 18 digs in the match and Jackie Boulris recorded 11 digs. Boulris (PICTURED LEFT) had a match-high three service aces in the contest.

The first set was a back-and-four contest. The set was tied at 19-19 when the Vikings recorded the next three points to gain a 22-19 lead in the set. The Thunder cut the Vikings' lead to 23-22. A kill by North Park's Lauren Wiltsie gave the guests a 24-22 lead. Wheaton scored the next point to get within one of the Vikings at 24-23, but NPU closed out the set with a kill to earn the 25-23 win. Moored led the Thunder with five kills in the set, Thornton contributed six assists and Bosse had eight digs.

The Thunder gained an early 5-2 lead in the second set, however, the Vikings responded with four points to take a 6-5 lead. NPU never trailed after scoring the four unanswered points. Moore had four kills in the set and Funk tallied five assists.

The third set was tied at 8-8; however, Wheaton out-scored the Vikings 7-2 to build up a 15-10 lead. Audrey Irwin tallied three kills in the Wheaton surge and Boulris recorded two service aces. The Vikings countered with a 6-1 run to tie the set at 16-16. The Thunder scored the next three points as the hosts took a 19-16 lead; and NPU responded with three points to tie the set at 19-19. The Vikings took a 23-21 lead, but a NPU error helped Wheaton cut the guests' lead to 23-22. A pair of NPU kills on the next two points helped the Vikings to a 25-22 victory in the final set.

Lauren Wiltsie led the Vikings with 17 kills and she added 19 digs. Kajsa Meyer registered 38 assists for the guests.

Wheaton closes out its stretch of four home matches in a five-match span on Wednesday night when Aurora visits King Arena at 7:00 p.m.
