Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton swimming teams opened their season on Saturday afternoon with a dual meet against the University of Chicago. The Thunder men's swim team defeated the ninth-ranked Maroons 139-66 with the women's team falling to the seventh-ranked Maroons 115-90. Wheaton's men won all but one race in their season-opening event.
The men finished first in every event except one, with freshman Will Rinne leading the way with three event vcitroeis. Rinne won the 200 IM (1:55.98) and 200 breast (2:09.96) and swam on the victorious 400 medley relay. Rinne's 200 IM time was the 11
th fastest time in school history and the his 200 breast time was the 12
th fastest time in school history. Jack O'Connor won the 100 free in 48.36 and was joined by other individual event winners Daniel Deysher (200 free, 1:47.79), Micah Kimel (500 free, 5:08.89), and Logan McDaniel (1000 free, 10:29.17). The men won both relays with Szymczak, Rinne, Christian Cameron, and O'Connor winning the 400 medley relay in 3:30.49 and Kimel, Cleveland Speece, Josh Dull, and Dingfield winning in 3:18.73.Â
For the women,
Brooke Barnes was a triple winner, winning the 50 free (24.71) and 100 free (53.79), and leading off the victorious 400 free relay, which won in a time of 3:43.12. She was joined on that relay by
Maggie Franke,
Kristen Garner, and
Ashley Bowen. Other individual winners for the women were
Ashley Bowen (1000 free, 11:15.91) and
Meredith Clarkson (200 back, 2:17.32).
