Eric Stevenson and Phillip Nichols named to the D3football.com Team of the Week

atWheaton, Ill. - Wheaton sophomore Eric Stevenson and freshman Phillip Nichols have both been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware. Stevenson was selected as a linebacker and Nichols earned the honor as a return specialist.

Stevenson, honored as the CCIW Defensive Player of the Week earlier this week, recorded a career-high 15 tackles last Saturday in a 19-14 conference win at Carthage. The sophomore made 13 solo tackles in the effort. Stevenson made two tackles inside the Wheaton two-yard line during a goal-line stand in the second quarter that prevented the Red Men from scoring on a first-and-goal situation from the Thunder six-yard line. Stevenson leads the Wheaton defense with 22 total tackles this season, including 15 solo tackles.

Nichols earned his Team of the Week recognition for his effort in the Wheaton return game. He returned a punt 70 yards for a third-quarter TD that gave Wheaton a 19-7 lead last Saturday at Carthage. The 70-yard punt return is the ninth-longest return in Division III this year and the longest by a Thunder player since 2010. Nichols also had a key 26-yard punt return in the first quarter to put the Thunder in Carthage territory and helped set up Wheaton's first touchdown of the game, as he averaged 24.0 yards on six punt returns in the game. Nichols is averging 21.7 yards per punt return this year, ranking ninth in Division III in the category.
