Wheaton, Ill. - Sophomore linebacker
Eric Stevenson was named this week's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Stevenson is Wheaton's first CCIW Player of the Week honoree in the 2016 season.
Stevenson tallied a career-high 15 tackles, including 13 solo stops, on Saturday afternoon in Wheaton's 19-14 victory at Carthage College in the CCIW opener. The sophomore made two stops inside the Wheaton two-yard line during a goal-line stand in the second quarter the prevented the Red Men from scoring on a first-and-goal situation from the Thunder six-yard line.
The sophomore leds the Wheaton defense with 22 total tackles this season, including 15 solo tackles. Stevenson has two tackles for lost yardage (-12 yards) to his credit this fall.
Wheaton is 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in CCIW play. The Thunder will return to action on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. when Elmhurst visits McCully Stadium for a conference matchup.
