The Thunder volleyball team tops Lake Forest 3-0 in the home opener

The Wheaton volleyball team opened its home schedule on Tuesday night with a 3-0 victory in King Arena against Lake Forest College. The Thunder earned a 27-25 victory in the first set, followed by a 25-20 win in the second set. The Thunder closed out the victory with a 25-17 win in the third set.

22231Wheaton took an early 9-3 lead in the opening set, however, the Foresters slowly cut into the Thunder lead as the guests took a 17-16 advantage. Wheaton responded to take a 24-22 lead, however, LFC tied the matchup at 24-24. Meghan Lacey tallied a kill to give Wheaton a 25-24 advantage. Lake Forest responded to tie the set at 25-25, however a pair of LFC miscues gave Wheaton the 27-25 advantage in the victory in the set. Madeline Moore (PICTURED LEFT) registered a team-high seven kills in the opening set, posting a .636 attack percentage. Sophomore Jessica Bosse had seven digs in the set.

Lake Forest jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the first set, however, Wheaton out-scored the Foresters 7-1 to gain a 10-7 lead. The Thunder never trailed after that point, earning in the 25-20 win in the set.

Wheaton convincingly won the third set 25-17, only trailing once in the set. Katie Rohrer and Shelby Knowles each registered three kills in the set. Lacey and Bosse each had a team-high five digs in the set.

22232Lacey (PICTURED RIGHT) led the Thunder with nine kills and she added 10 digs. Knowles and Moore each had eight kills. Hannah Japp and Rohrer each registered six kills. The Thunder posted an impressive .344 attack percentage with 42 kills on the night.

Jessica Bosse had 13 digs and Emily Potts tallied a team-high three assisted blocks. Sophomore Kelly Thornton had 19 assists and Ashley Torok registered 17 assists. Jackie Boulris and Bosse each had two service aces in the match.

The Thunder (3-7) will host #22-ranked Elmhurst (4-2) tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. in the CCIW opener for both teams. All Wheaton students wearing a Ryken's Rowdies t-shirt to Wednesday's match will have an opportunity to win free Chipotle. Students that do not yet have a Ryken's Rowdies t-shirt can purchase one for $10 (cash only) at the King Arena entrance before the match.
