Kenosha, Wis. - The Thunder baseball team had its seven-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday afternoon but rebounded to salvage a doubleheader split against the Carthage Red Men. Wheaton dropped game one of the twinbill by a score of 5-2 but earned a 10-0 run-rule victory in the nightcap to improve to 15-7 overall and 4-1 in the CCIW. Carthage is now 9-9 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The two teams will play game three of their series next Wednesday after Lee Pfund Stadium.
Thunder leadoff man
Nick Mailman manufactured a run in the top of the first inning of game two with a leadoff single. Mailman then advanced to second base on a wild pitch, moved to third on a groundout and scored on a
Ben Brittain ground out to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.
The early run would be all the offense that freshman pitcher
Christian Bolhuis would need. Making just his second career start, the rookie right hander yielded only four hits with one walk and struck out four batters in a complete game shutout effort. Bolhuis did not allow a runner to advance past second base in the outing.

Wheaton added to its lead with two runs in the top of the third inning on a two-run double by
Jacob Zeller, his third double of the day. A six-run fifth inning broke the game open with Mailman scoring first on a balk.
Kyle Mellinger brought home Brittain with a squeeze bunt and later came home on
John McKenna's (PICTURED RIGHT) three-run double to center field. McKenna wold later score on
Graham True's RBI single. True added an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to account for Wheaton's 10-0 margin of victory.
Wheaton tallied 10 runs on 14 hits with one error in the game.
Nick Mailman led the Thunder offense with three hits and three runs scored.
Ben Brittain,
Clay Morrison,
John McKenna and
Graham True each added two hits apiece with McKenna driving in three runs and True adding two RBI.
Jacob Zeller also drove in two runs.
In the first game, Thunder starter
Peter Moran and Carthage righty Tim Sulik matched shutout innings for the first five innings before Wheaton took a 2-0 lead on an RBI single by
Clay Morrison and an RBI fielder's choice by
John McKenna. Carthage answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and added two more in the bottom of the seventh inning and one more in the eighth inning to win 5-2.
The first-place Thunder will continue its CCIW schedule on Friday evening when Wheaton travels to Moline, Illinois, to take on the Augustana Vikings at 5 pm. Wheaton will host the Vikings for the final two games of the series on Saturday with a 1 pm doubleheader.
