Aurora, Ill. – The Wheaton College softball team traveled to nearby Aurora University of a matchup with the Spartans (5-5) on Thursday afternoon. Wheaton swept the hosts with a 9-5 win in the opener and picked up a 6-2 victory in the nightcap.

Wheaton (9-3) will travel to Saint Mary's (Ind.) on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader as the Belles will host the Thunder off campus at St. Joseph's High School in South Bend, Indiana.
Wheaton topped Aurora 9-5 in today's first game as the Thunder scored nine runs, on 17 hits, with three errors and Aurora tallied five runs, on eight hits with one error.
Katie Thornton improved to 4-3 on the season by earning the win in a complete game performance in the circle. Thornton allowed five runs in the game, including three earned runs, on eight hits. She struck out two and walked two.
Ellen Radandt hit a pair of doubles, going 4-for-5 at the plate. The senior drove in three runs for the guests. Fellow senior
Katie Yergler (PICTURED LEFT) was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Meagan Neuhaus was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Aurora scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and the Spartans added another run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Wheaton cut the Spartans' lead to 2-1 with a run in the top of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by
Lyndsey Pritchard. Aurora added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 3-1 advantage.
Wheaton countered with four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-3 lead. Yergler hit a two-run single and scored on an Aurora passed ball in the inning.
Alyssa Leonard drove in a run in the sixth with a single.
Wheaton added four more runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 9-3 lead. Radandt highlighted the inning with a three-run double.
Hannah Clark drove in a run with a RBI-single. Aurora scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Spartans were unable to complete the rally in the 9-5 victory for the Thunder.

Wheaton completed the sweep with a 6-2 win in the second game. The Thunder scored six runs, on seven hits, with no errors and Aurora tallied two runs, on 11 hits with five Spartan errors.
Jaclyn McLean started the game for the Thunder allowing one run in one inning on four hits. Thornton (5-3) earned the win in four innings of scoreless relief. Thornton (PICTURED RIGHT) scattered three Aurora hits and struck out four.
Abby Butler allowed one run in two innings of relief. Butler scattered four hits and struck out one batter.
Leonard and
Christina Sandstedt each went 2-for-4 for the Thunder. Radandt hit her third home run of the season in the outing.
Wheaton gained the lead early with four runs in the top of the second inning.
Kelly Thornton drove in a run in the inning with a RBI-single and Clark drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Aurora tallied its first run in the bottom of the second inning to cut Wheaton's lead to 4-1.
Wheaton extended its lead to 6-1 with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning. Both of Wheaton's runs in the inning were the result of a two-run homer by Radandt. Aurora scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to account for the 6-2 final score in favor of the Thunder.
