Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton football team is ranked in the top-10 of a pair of national Division III polls for the conclusion of the 2016 season. The Thunder finished the season ranked seventh in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) coaches poll and eighth in the D3football.com Top-25.

The recognition marks the tenth time in the 14 year-history of the D3football.com Top-25 poll that Wheaton has finished a season in the ranking. This is the fifth time that the Thunder football program has been in the website's top-10 in the final poll of a season.

Wheaton posted an 11-2 record in 2016, marking the third-consecutive year that Wheaton has tallied a double digit win total. The string of success is just the second time in program history that Wheaton has won 10 or more games in three-consecutive seasons and the first time the team has won at least 11 games for three-straight seasons.

Wheaton advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs for the third time in program history. Five Thunder student-athletes earned All-American recognition in 2016 as Peter Gibson (AFCA); Caleb Ashby (D3football.com); Zach Lindquist (D3football.com); Kyler Kregel (D3football.com) and Chase Greenlee (D3football.com) each earned an All-American honor in the postseason.
