Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

The Thunder men's soccer team falls at No. 25-Carthage, 4-2

Kenosha, Wis. – Carthage College (9-3-0, 2-0-0 CCIW), ranked 25th in the most recent NSCAA Division III Coaches Poll, defeated the Wheaton Thunder men's soccer team 4-2 on Wednesday night in a CCIW matchup.

21988Carthage gained an early lead as an own goal gave the Red Men a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute of the match. Wheaton was awarded a penalty kick opportunity in the ninth minute as the result of a Carthage foul. Wheaton's Ben Bakke (PICTURED LEFT) converted the penalty kick opportunity and tied the match at 1-1. The matchup was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Carthage's Jamie Tausend scored his second goal of the year in the 52nd minute to give the hosts a 2-1 lead. The Red Men increased their lead to 3-1 in the 74th minute as Adrian Herrara converted a penalty kick for the hosts. Senior Max Carey registered his first goal of the year on a free kick in the 77th minute to cut Carthage's lead to 3-2. Carthage's final score of the night came off the foot of Juan Marban when he scored on a Freddy Martinez assist in the 84th minute to account for the 4-2 final score.

Carthage owned an 11-7 advantage in shots tonight and the Red Men had a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Carthage was awarded six corner kicks in the game, Wheaton did not attempt a corner kick.    

Wheaton's starting goalkeeper, Andrew Beard played 24 minutes, allowing one goal with zero saves. Freshman Justin Majeski replaced Beard and played 66 minutes in the net, with three goals allowed and three saves. Carthage goalkeeper Brayan Arce Justiniano made three saves and he allowed both Thunder goals.

Wheaton is now 2-6-3 overall and 0-2-0 in CCIW play. The Thunder will host Carroll University on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in a Homecoming weekend matchup at Joe Bean Stadium.
