Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's soccer team (10-7, 7-1 CCIW) defeated Millikin 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Joe Bean Stadium. Millikin falls to 8-7-1 on the year and 2-5 CCIW.
Wheaton closes out the regular season portion of its schedule with a 7-1 record in conference play and secures at least a share of CCIW Championship. The Wheaton women's soccer program has won a league best 18 CCIW Championships in women's soccer. Today's win also secures that the Thunder will be the top-seed in the upcoming CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament to determine the conference's representative to this year's NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.
Morgan Whitman (PICTURED LEFT) scored the go-ahead goal for the Thunder at the 15:27 mark today. Whitman scored from about 10-yards out as she arched a ball into the back of the net off of a double-assist from
Madison Peebles and
Sarah Van Wingerden. The Thunder maintained a 1-0 lead at the halftime intermission.
Chelsea Gnan scored an insurance goal for Wheaton at the 72:39 mark of the match. Gnan's header was assisted by Peebles and
Hannah Hodge.

Kathryn McGregor played 75 minutes in the Thunder net and
Mary Daghfal played 15 minutes for the Thunder. Millikin netminder Anna Benvenuto made 10 saves and allowed two goals in 90 minutes of work in the net for the Big Blue.
Wheaton dominated play tonight as the Thunder out-shot the Big Blue 31-6, including a 12-0 advantage in shots on goal for the hosts. Wheaton was awarded 15 corner kicks and Millikin had two corner kicks on the evening.
Wheaton will close out its regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. (EDT) in a non-conference matchup at Kenyon College.
