Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton men's soccer team was blanked by Elmhurst 1-0 on Wednesday night at Joe Bean Stadium. With the loss, Wheaton falls to 3-7-3 overall and 1-3 in the CCIW while Elmhurst improves to 7-4-3 and 2-2-1 in conference action. Wheaton will next be in action on Saturday afternoon when the Thunder travel to take on the Illinois Wesleyan Titans at 3:30 PM in Bloomington, Illinois.
On a cool, wet night, the Thunder held a slim 8-6 edge in shots despite the Bluejays putting four shots on goal to Wheaton's three. Both teams attempted one corner kick in each half. Elmhurst's Nick King and Wheaton's
Justin Majeski each made three saves with Majeski allowing one goal.
After a scoreless first half, Elmhurst took the lead late in the 54th minute when Josh Arvidson's header found the back of the net to give the Bluejays a 1-0 lead. Defense controlled the rest of the second half with both teams only attempting three shots each in the half. Despite a chippy finish that saw Elmhurst play the last two minutes down a man after a red card, Wheaton was unable to find the equalizer.
