GAME STATS Dubuque, Iowa - The Thunder men's soccer team dropped its second straight game on Tuesday night as Wheaton fell 2-0 at #11-ranked Loras. The Duhawks scored early in the match and never looked back as Loras won its fourth straight game against the Thunder. With the loss Wheaton falls to 1-2 on the young season while Loras improves to 2-1.
Loras held a 14-9 edge in shots and a 7-4 edge in shots on goal.
Matt Paprocki allowed two goals while making five saves. Jacob Peterson made four saves for the Duhawks in the shutout effort.
The Duhawks struck early in the match a long ball played out in defence was tracked down on the endline by Johnny Rummelhart who found Alex Bradley at the top of the 18-yard box for a one-time strike to the far post to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Paprocki held Wheaton in the game for the remainder of the half by making four saves to keep the score at 1-0.
With the Thunder aggressive at the top of their formation, Loras was able to find room in the midfield which eventually opened the field for the second Duhawk goal when Rummelhart had his initial shot blocked but was able to recover for a strike from 12 yards out to make it 2-0. The Duhawks were able to collect in defense to thwart the Thunder attempts to equalize and held on for the 2-0 victory.
Wheaton will next be in action on Friday afternoon when the Thunder open participation in the Berry Invitational with a matchup against Oglethorpe in Rome, Georgia.
