Kenosha, Wis. - The Thunder men's tennis team earned a 6-3 victory against Elmhurst College on Saturday afternoon in the third-place match at 2015 CCIW Men's Tennis Championships. Wheaton is now 15-7 on the season.
Wheaton won two of the three doubles matches in today's contest against the Bluejays.
Justin Ancona teamed with
Matt Steiner at number-two doubles for an 8-0 victory against Elmhurst's Matthew Kulma and Ricardo Franco. The Thunder number-three doubles team of
Brent Westergren and
Derek Mumaw earned an 8-2 win against Elmhurst's Quinn Jennings and Alex Abbuhl.
Wheaton's
Josh Ward rallied to defeat Chris Harrison at number-one singles 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, 6-2. Ancona was a 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-1) victor against Jennings at number-two singles.
Lincoln Metz picked up a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number-four singles and Mumaw was a 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) winner versus Franco at number-six singles.
