Softball drops a pair at Benedictine

Lisle, Ill. – The Thunder softball team dropped a pair of games in a non-conference doubleheader at Benedictine on Tuesday night. The Eagles won a 3-2 decision in the opener and Benedictine was a 2-1 winner in the nightcap. Wheaton will host North Central on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. in a key CCIW doubleheader with first place on the line.

Benedictine was a 3-2 winner in the opener as the Eagles scored three runs, on six hits with two errors and Wheaton recorded one run, on eight hits with one error. Freshman Kendall Kehres (0-4) worked five innings for the Thunder as she allowed three runs, on six hits, with three walks and two strikeouts. Abby Butler worked one inning of scoreless relief. Abby Coster was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Thunder with a RBI. Ellen Radandt was 2-for-4 and Becky Leone hit a double.

The Eagles earned a 2-1 victory in Tuesday's second game with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Benedictine scored two runs, on seven hits with no errors and Wheaton tallied one run, on six hits with two errors.

Thunder starting pitcher Katie Thornton (8-5) worked 6-2/3 innings for Wheaton. She allowed two runs, with no earned runs, on seven hits and three strikeouts. Alyssa Leonard tallied three of Wheaton's six hits as she was 3-for-4, including a triple, with a run scored. Lyndsey Pritchard, Becky Leone and Abby Coster each hit singles for the guests.
