Offense rolls as Wheaton shuts out Dominican 10-0 in seven innings

- The Thunder baseball team rolled to a 10-0 run-rule victory over Dominican in a nonconference matchup on Tuesday night at Lee Pfund Stadium. Wheaton scored in every other inning and brought the game to an early conclusion with a five-run seventh inning. Wheaton improves to 12-17 on the season while Dominican falls to 10-15 on the season.

13067Wheaton scored 10 runs on 11 hits with one error while the Stars were limited to just three hits. Josh Arevalo (PICTURED RIGHT) earned the victory on the mound for the Thunder scattering just three hits and walking three while striking out five hitters in a complete game effort.

The hosts jumped out to a quick lead just two batters into the first inning when Matt Schappell led off with a single and scored on Josh Kimmel's triple. Kimmel then scampered home on Kyle Mellinger's sacrifice fly to take a 2-0 lead.

Matt Krause doubled the lead with a two-run triple in the bottom of the third inning. Back to back doubles by Kimmel and Mellinger led to another run in the bottom of the fifth inning to push the lead to 5-0.

Wheaton loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored a pair of runs on Johnny Peltz' two-run single up the middle. Krause followed with a single to left to score Mellinger from second to make it 8-0. Peter Newman drove in a run with a groundout and Seth Meyer ended the game with a pinch-hit walkoff single to score Peltz.

Josh Kimmel was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and a triple and scored four runs to lead the Thunder attack. Matt Schappell scored two runs and had two hits and Matt Krause had two hits and drove in a run with a triple.

Wheaton will resume CCIW action on Friday when the Thunder kickoff a crucial CCIW series against the North Park Vikings at 6 PM at Lee Pfund Stadium.
