Rock Island, Ill. - The Thunder men's tennis team earned a key 5-4 victory at Augustana (8-8, 0-1 CCIW) on Saturday. Wheaton earned two wins in doubles competition and each team won three singles matches.

Justin Ancona and Matt Steiner teamed to earn an 8-3 win at number-two doubles against the Vikings' tandem of Harald Olsson and Lawrence Palmer. Brent Westergren and Derek Mumaw earned a 9-7 win at number-three doubles versus the Vikings' duo of Austin Schoeck and Connor Woolf.

Ancona won a 7-5, 6-1 decision at number-two singles against Samuel Totten. Steiner was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at number-three singles versus Eric Pohl of Augustana. Freshman Lincoln Metz picked up a 7-6, 6-4 win at number-four singles against Patrick Lenz of Augustana.

Wheaton is now 10-5 overall and 3-0 in CCIW matches. The Thunder will host Aurora on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
