Altamonte Springs, Fla. - The Wheaton men's tennis team opened up its Spring Break trip on Monday with a conference match against Illinois Wesleyan (1-4, 0-1 CCIW). Wheaton shut out the Titans 9-0 to improve to 4-4 on the year and 1-0 in CCIW play. The Thunder will face Division I foe Valparaiso University on Tuesday.

The Thunder won all six singles matches on Monday against IWU. Josh Ward was a 6-3, 3-6, 10-1 victor at number-one singles and Justin Ancona earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at number-two singles. Matt Steiner picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number-three singles and Lincoln Metz was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at number-four singles. Karl Wenzel was a 6-0, 6-4 victor at number-five singles and Derek Mumaw picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at number-six singles.

Ward and Wenzel teamed up to earn an 8-4 win at number-one doubles, Steiner and Ancona teamed up to gain an 8-4 victory at number-two doubles and Metz paired with Andrew Trump for an 8-4 win at number-three doubles.
