Auburndale, Fla. - The Wheaton baseball team concluded its annual spring break trip on Saturday with a 6-3 loss to Ramapo College. Ramapo jumped out to a quick lead in the first two innings and held off several late Thunder rallies to improve to 3-0 on the season. Wheaton falls to 4-7 and finishes their trip 3-5. Wheaton will next be in action on Thursday night when the Thunder host Rockford for their home opener at 6 PM at Lee Pfund Stadium.
Both teams managed nine hits on the day with Wheaton committing two errors while Ramapo committed only one. Larson Walker went the distance for the Roadrunners allowing three earned runs and striking out nine while walking two batters.
Michael Kaufman (1-2) was saddled with the loss after surrendering five runs, four earned, on eight hits in 7.1 innings. Kaufman walked two but struck out nine batters.
Peter Moran surrendered one run on one hit with two strikeouts in one inning.
Tom Bishop threw a perfect two-thirds of an innings.
Ramapo jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning and a leadoff home run in the top of the second inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Wheaton got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning when
Johnny Peltz led off with a single and moved up to second on an error by the Ramapo center fielder.
Andrew Laucella followed with a single into right to plate Peltz. The Thunder put the tying runners into scoring position with a double steal late in the inning but could not bring them home.
The Roadrunners added a run in the top of the seventh but Wheaton countered in their half when
Matt Krause tripled to left-center and scored on a sacrifice fly by
Tyler Sigler. Ramapo went up 5-2 in the top of the eighth but Wheaton answered again in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by
Kyle Mellinger to score
Josh Kimmel.
Ramapo added a final run in the top of the ninth inning and Wheaton was able to get the tying run to the plate with two runners in scoring position but again could not take advantage.

Kyle Trivits each had two-hit games for the Thunder.
