Winter Haven, Fla. - A slow start proved too much to overtime for the Thunder baseball team against a hot-hitting Fontbonne squad on Tuesday morning. The Griffins posted runs in each of the first four innings and blew the game open with a five-run sixth inning to cruise to a 14-3 run-rule victory. Fontbonne won its fourth straight game to improve to 4-2 while Wheaton falls to 3-4.
Fontbonne tallied their runs on 15 hits while committing three errors. Wheaton totalled eight hits and also committed three errors.
Fontbonne struck right away, pushing two runs across after just three hitters. Wheaton looked to rally in the bottom of the first but an inning-ending double play erased a leadoff single.
Fontbonne pushed across another two runs in the top of the second, three in the top of the third and two more in the top of the fourth inning to lead 9-0.
Johnny Peltz provided Wheaton's first run of the day on a towering one-out solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Wheaton could not take advantage after holding the Griffins scoreless in the fifth and Fontbonne broke the game open when their first seven hitters reached base en route to a five-run sixth inning.

Kyle Trivits in the bottom of the seventh to account for the final score of 14-3.
Wheaton will be off on Wednesday before facing Muskingum in Port Charlotte, Florida at 4:30 PM (EST) on Thursday.
