#10-Thunder women's basketball picks up its third-straight win with a 68-52 victory at Dubuque

Dubuque, Iowa –
The Thunder women's basketball team picked up its third consecutive win on Friday night with a 68-52 victory at University of Dubuque. Wheaton is 6-1 on the year, while Dubuque falls to 3-5 on the season. Wheaton, ranked 10th in both the WBCA Division III and D3hoops.com Top-25 polls, will remain in Dubuque on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. tipoff at Loras College.

19578Tonight's matchup with the Spartans was tied at 10-10 with 3:55 remaining in the first quarter when a pair of free throws by Wheaton's Kelly Lawson (PICTURED LEFT) began a string of six unanswered points to close out the opening quarter as the Thunder led 16-10 after the first 10 minutes of action. Wheaton dominated play in the second quarter as the Thunder out-scored the Spartans 24-8. The guests led Dubuque 40-18 at halftime. The Thunder maintained a double-digit lead for the entire second half.

Senior center Hannah Considine and junior guard Katie McDaniels each scored 11 points to lead Wheaton's scoring efforts. Freshman Devin Kyler was 4-for-4 from the field with nine points and five rebounds. Kelly Lawson scored nine points for the guests.

19567Jennifer Berg (PICTURED RIGHT) led Wheaton on the glass with eight rebounds and added seven points. McDaniels, Chantal Meacham and Ellie Zeller led the Thunder with three assists apiece. Meacham grabbed a team-high four steals and Zeller snagged three steals in the win. Zeller added six points in Wheaton's well-rounded offensive effort.

Braanna Steen led the Spartans with 15 rebounds and she scored 16 points. Emily Brinker tallied a game-high 20 points for the hosts and grabbed eight rebounds while Abbey Meyer collected nine boards.

Wheaton posted a 34.4% (22-for-64) field goal percentage, including 25% (6-of-24) from three-point range and the guests shot 66.7% (18-of-27) at the free throw line.  Dubuque shot 22.8% (13-of-57) from the floor, with 20% (5-of-25) behind the three-point arc and 72.4% (21-for-29) at the charity stripe.

The Thunder out-rebounded the Spartans 47-44 tonight and the guested held a 17-15 advantage on the offensive glass. Wheaton took advantage of Dubuque's 21 turnovers tonight as the Thunder out-scored the hosts 21-6 off of turnovers.
