Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton men's and women's swimming teams kicked off their 2015-16 season with a dual meet agains the University of Chicago on Saturday at Chrouser Natatorium. The Thunder women's team fell to the Maroons 122-83 while the Maroons won the men's contest 117-86.
Both of Wheaton's 400-yard medley relay teams had impressive showings. The Thunder women's quartet of
Kirsty Nitz,
Erin Bagley,
Sarah Coley and
Hannah Rueger finished with a time of 3:55.55 to finish seven seconds ahead of the runners-up from UChicago. The Wheaton men's foursome of
Chris Szymczak,
Jon Lait,
Jacob Clement and
Jack O'Connor finished in 3:30.97 to top the field by nearly three seconds. Coley (24.86) and O'Connor (21.46) led a Wheaton sweep of the 50-yard freestyle. Coley also won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.33.
Jacob Clement and
Daniel Deysher earned a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard freestyle with Clement finishing in 1:45.69 to narrowly clip Deysher's time of 1:45.84.
Kirsty Nitz narrowly missed an NCAA consideration time in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:07.95, five seconds ahead of
Erin Bagley who finished in second place. Bagley earned a first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:27.73 to top
Katie Deysher's second place time of 2:28.47.
Will McCauley won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:47.78.
