Wheaton attacked the Bluejays' defense early in the matchup with three Thunder shots in the first five minutes of the contest. A shot attempt by Wheaton's Kristin Rauh in the 18th minute was the first of three shot attempts for the Thunder in a span of one minute and 12 seconds as the Thunder continued to pressure Elmhurst with the guests out-shooting the Bluejays 9-0 in the first 19 minutes.

Thunder senior Ally Witt (PICTURED LEFT) worked her way through the Elmhurst defense in the 33rd minute to loft a goal into the back of the net to give the Thunder a 2-0 lead. Elmhurst's offense did put occasional pressure on the Thunder defense in the final 15 minutes, but with very little result. Wheaton out-shot the hosts 10-6 in the first half.

Elmhurst's Kennedy Irmen put the Bluejays on the scoreboard with a goal in the 84th minute to trim the Wheaton lead to 2-1. Thunder junior Sarah Frey increased the Wheaton lead to 3-1 with a goal in the 86th minute. Witt delivered a cross to Frey and she headed the ball into the back of the net to secure the win for the Thunder.

Wheaton goalkeeper Abbey Fuster recorded three saves and allowed one goal in 30 minutes of work in the Thunder net. Vickers stopped six Wheaton shots and she allowed three goals in the Elmhurst net.

Wheaton held a 28-16 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 edge in shots on goal. The Thunder tallied eight corner kicks in the match with three corners for the Bluejays.
