Head coach
Brittany Smith noted after the match, "After such a solid performance yesterday at University of Chicago, it was disappointing to see us play so flat tonight. Most aspects of our game were off, and while we did good things, and even held the lead, we never really had momentum. We still have a chance to get into the conference tournament and our goals are now set on our next two conference matches against Carthage and Millikin. I know our team will regroup and give their best effort, and we will see if it is enough.
Wheaton took an early 8-2 lead in the first set. The Vikings gradually chipped away at the Thunder lead as Augustana tied the match at 15-15. The two teams continued to battle through ties to 21-21. A Thunder service error and a kill by Augustana's Martha Murray gave the Vikings a 23-21 lead in the set. Wheaton tied the set at 23-23 with two consecutive points that included a kill by
Shelby Knowles. Augustana's Sydney Sand and Knowles each tallied a kill to tie the score at 24-24. A kill by Murray gave the Vikings a 25-24 lead and Sand registered a kill to give the guests a 26-24 lead. Knowles had eight kills in the set and Smith had both of her service aces in the opening set.
Augustana jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the second set and never let go of the lead after that point as the Vikings earned the 25-14 victory. Knowles led the Thunder with eight kills in the second set.
The third set saw Wheaton take an early 5-3 lead. Wheaton led 9-8 when the Vikings registered eight unanswered points to take a 16-9 lead that the Vikings would not relinquish.
