Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton volleyball team is hosting the Wheaton Invitational this weekend in King Arena. Wheaton opened up its participation in the tournament on Friday night with a 3-0 victory against University of Dubuque. Wheaton topped the Spartans 25-16 in the first set and earned a 25-12 victory in the second set. The Thunder closed out the match with a 25-18 victory in the third set.
The first set was tied at 6-6 when the Thunder took the lead for good, pulling ahead to a 13-9 lead. The Thunder scored the final four points of the set to earn the 25-16 victory.
Wheaton easily won second set 25-12 thanks to jumping out to a 9-2 lead in the set. The Thunder again took an early lead in the third set as Wheaton led 9-3 early in the match. The Spartans slowly chipped away at

Wheaton's lead as Dubuque trimmed the hosts' lead to 20-17. The Thunder out-scored Dubuque 5-1 to close out the set for the 25-18 victory and the 3-0 win in the match.
Wheaton freshman
Sydney Vischer (PICTURED ABOVE) led the Thunder with 13 kills as she had a .375 attack percentage in the match.
Shelby Knowles tallied eight kills with eight digs. Sophomore
Katie Rohrer contributed seven kills for the hosts as she posted a .455 attack percentage and had three assisted blocks.
Kelly Thornton distributed 17 assists and
Ashley Torok had 14 assists. Senior
Kelli Manning (PICTURED RIGHT) recorded 11 digs with four service aces.
Jessica Bosse and
Ashley Torok each had three service aces as Wheaton recorded 11 aces in the match. Freshman
Juliana Sudfeld tallied three assisted blocks with a solo block.
Wheaton (6-11) will participate in Saturday's opening session with a match at 10:15 a.m. against UW-Eau Claire. Wheaton's second and final match on Saturday will be a 12:45 p.m. meeting with Saint Mary's (Ind.).
