Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

The Thunder men's soccer team shuts out Illinois Wesleyan 4-0

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton men's soccer team picked up a conference victory against Illinois Wesleyan (5-7-2, 1-3-0 CCIW) at Joe Bean Stadium on Saturday afternoon as the Thunder earned a 4-0 victory against the Titans. Wheaton is now 9-3-2 on the season and 3-1-0 in conference play.

The first half saw both team have opportunities, however, Wheaton was the first team was to capitalize with a goal. Wheaton was fouled in the goal box and the Thunder was awarded a penalty kick. Senior All-American Marshall Hollingsworth converted the penalty kick to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. Wheaton maintained its 1-0 lead at halftime.

Wheaton controlled the pace early in the second half and Stephen Golz registered a goal on an assist from Ben Bakke in the 48th minute to give Wheaton a 2-0 lead. Golz again tallied a goal
for the hosts as he utilized a Marshall Hollingsworth assist for the score in the 50th minute to give the Thunder 3-0 lead. Freshman Tyler Robbins scored his third goal of the season in the 76th minute as he put the ball into the net off of a double-assist from Nicholas Gaines and Jon Clark. Wheaton out-shot the Titans 12-1 in the second half.

Thunder goalkeeper Matt Paprocki played 90 minutes in the net for the Thunder. Illinois Wesleyan goalkeeper Craig Kym made six saves and allowed four goals in 90 minutes. Wheaton attempted 21 shots in the match, including 12 on goal. The Titans attempted six shots in the match, with five coming in the first half. Wheaton was awarded 13 corner kicks in the match and
IWU had two.

Wheaton will be off until October 24th when the Thunder hosts North Central at 7:00 p.m.
