Thunder volleyball falls in straight sets at UW-Whitewater

. - The Wheaton Thunder volleyball team fell on the road in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at UW-Whitewater. Wheaton dropped set scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-17. With the loss, the Thunder fall to 4-11 while the Warhawks improve to 14-5 with their fifth straight victory.

Shelby Knowles led the Thunder with 11 kills and 14 digs. Senior Lindsay Stein recorded seven kills in eight chances. Kelli Manning also had 14 digs. Ashley Torok led Wheaton with 12 assists with Alley Lindner dishing out nine assists.

Wheaton took the first point in all three sets but the Warhawks quickly raced out to a 10-5 lead en route to a 25-18 victory in the first set. Seven straight points early in set two put the Warhawks on path for a 16-9 lead. The Thunder pulled to within 21-20 on consecutive hitting errors by the Warhawks but the hosts scored the final four points of the set for the 25-20 win. Six straight points for Whitewater in the third set gave the Warhawks an early lead en route to pulling away for a 25-17 third set victory.

Wheaton will be back in action on Tuesday night when the Thunder welcome the North Central Cardinals to King Arena for a 7 PM conference-opening tilt.
