#10-Wheaton women's soccer team earns a 5-0 win against UW-Eau Claire

Wheaton, Ill. –
The Thunder women's soccer team earned a convincing 5-0 victory against UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday afternoon at Joe Bean Stadium. Wheaton, ranked 10th in this week's NSCAA Division III Poll, is now 8-1-0. The Thunder will travel to top-ranked Washington-St. Louis on Saturday for a match against the Bears (VIDEO LINK).
 
11912Senior Anna Seabolt gave the Thunder an early 1-0 lead when she blasted in a long arching shot from 22 yards out in the fourth minute. Freshman Sarah Van Wingerden netted her first collegiate goal in the 32nd minute when she headed the ball in off of a Samantha Frank assist. Wheaton out-shot the Blugolds 20-4 in the first half, as the hosts held a 2-0 lead at halftime.
 
A short span of a little more than a minute saw Wheaton collect three second-half goals. Kristin Rauh (PICTURED LEFT) gave the Thunder a 3-0 lead at 61:14 when she collected the ball in front of the net off of a Sarah Frey assist. Van Wingerden netted her second goal of the night at the 61:42 mark of the match, thanks to a Frey assist. The third Thunder goal in the flurry of offense was registered by Alexa Sharkey on an assist by Rauh at the 62:17 mark.
 
Wheaton out-shot UW-Eau Claire 26-5 in the match and the Thunder held an 11-2 edge in corner kicks. Abbey Fuster played 80 minutes in the Wheaton net, making three saves with no goals allowed and Mary Daghfal played 10 minutes. UW-Eau Claire netminder Sammie Lefaive played the first 45 minutes of the match, allowing three goals, with eight saves. Emily Byal played the entire second half, with three goals allowed and no saves.
