Wheaton, Ill. - The Wheaton men's tennis team lost its first conference match of the 2014 season on Tuesday afternoon as the Elmhurst College Bluejays defeated the Thunder 5-4 in a key CCIW match.

Thunder senior Ryan Kreis earned a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number-one singles. Wheaton's Josh Ward was a 6-4, 6-2 winner at number-three singles and David Buursma rallied to pick up a 6-1, 6-7, 7-6 victory at number-five singles. Wheaton's lone win in doubles play came in an 8-3 win for Derek Mumaw and Buursma at number-three doubles.

The defending CCIW Champion Bluejays improve to 12-4 on the year and Elmhurst is undefeated in conference play with a 5-0 league record. Wheaton is now 15-4 on the year and 3-1 in CCIW action. The Thunder will return to action on April 25 when Augustana visits Wheaton for a match at 4:00 p.m.
