Bloomington, Ill. - The Wheaton men's tennis team earned its fourth consecutive victory on Thursday with an 8-1 conference win at Illinois Wesleyan (4-8/0-3 CCIW). Head coach
Brad Pihl's team has now won 12 of its last 13 matches as the squad now has a record of 14-2 overall and is 2-0 in conference play. The Thunder will return to action on April 15 at North Central College.
The Thunder swept through the singles matches on Thursday as All-American
Ryan Kreis earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number-one singles and freshman
Justin Ancona was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at number-two singles.
Josh Ward won a 6-1, 6-3 decision at number-three singles and
Matt Steiner picked up a 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 win at number-four singles.
David Buursma won a 6-0, 6-2 decision at number-five singles and
Derek Mumaw was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at number-six singles.
Steiner and Ancona teamed up to win an 8-4 decision at number-two doubles. The tandem of Buursma and Mumaw earned an 8-0 victory at number-three doubles,
