Hanover Park, Ill. - The Thunder men's tennis team continued its strong start to the 2014 season on Friday night with a 9-0 victory against Carroll University (Wis.). Carroll falls to 1-6 on the year, while Wheaton is now 5-1 on the season. The Thunder will return to action on March 10 to start the team's five-match Spring Break trip to Orlando, Fla.
Ryan Kreis (PICTURED LEFT) earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory at number-one singles against Jack Michael. Michael entered the match ranked fourth in the current ITA Central Region rankings, marking Kreis' second victory in the last week against a player in the Central Region's top-10.
Freshman
Justin Ancona was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at number-two singles against Carroll's Matt Michael.
Josh Ward picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Quentin Lammers and
Matt Steiner was a 6-0, 6-0 victor at number-four singles.
David Buursma earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at number-five singles against Eric Schneider and
Brent Westergren defeated Sawyer Dargiewicz 6-4, 6-1 at number-six singles.
Ward and Kreis earned an 8-3 win at number-one singles against Matt Michael and Jack Michael. Ancona paired with Steiner for an 8-2 victory at number-two doubles against Lammers and Schneider. Mumaw and Buursma were 8-1 winners against Alex Reid and Schultz at number-three doubles.
