#9-ranked women's basketball remains undefeated with 71-59 victory at UChicago

- The Wheaton Thunder women's basketball extended its undefeated start to the season on Wednesday night with a 71-59 victory at the University of Chicago. Wheaton has now won three straight games against UChicago, including consecutive trips to the Ratner Center. Wheaton improves to 6-0 with the victory while the Maroons fall to 1-4 on the season. The Thunder will next be in action on Saturday with a 1 PM game at Roosevelt University.

Wheaotn shot 39.1% (27-69) from the field including a 33.3% (5-15) from the three-point line and 66.7% (12-18) from the free throw line. The Maroons shot 38.5% (20-52) from the field and 29.2% (7-24) from the three-point line and 54.5% (12-22) from the free throw line. Wheaton registered 12 steals on 32 Chicago turnovers with Moriah Reeves, Ellie Zeller and Kelly Lawson each recording three steals for the Thunder. Chicago outrebounded Wheaton 48-39 on the night with both teams grabbing 18 offensive rebounds.

16069The Thunder raced out to an early lead on Wednesday night, scoring the game's first nine points behind four points from Ellie Zeller. Wheaton extended the lead to 16-2 on consecutive lay-ups by Hannah Considine just over four minutes into the game. The Maroons answered with an 11-0 run to bring the game back to five points. Wheaton would push the lead back to double digits at 25-15, but the Maroons widdled the halftime score down toe 33-30 with a three-pointer in the final seconds of the half.

Chicago pulled even for the first time in the game at 35-35 with 17:11, but a three by Chantal Meacham re-established the Thunder lead for the first of the game. A Maroon three-pointer with five minutes to play cut the Thunder lead down to 58-55 but Wheaton answered with a decisive 9-0 run to pull out to a 67-55 lead and pushed the lead to as high as 15 points on a pair of Lauren Graham free throws before a late three-pointer accounted for the final score of 71-59.

Ellie Zeller and Chantal Meacham (PICTURED RIGHT) each scored a game-high 13 points, Kelly Lawson tallied 11 point, eight rebounds and four assists off the bench and Moriah Reeves scored 10 points. Lawson's eight rebounds tied UChicago's Brittany Nordstrom for a game-high. Chicago's Claire Devaney led the Maroons with 10 points.

Wheaton will remain on the road on Saturday afternoon when the Thunder head into Chicago again for a 1 PM road match-up at Roosevelt University.

Note Worthy: Wheaton is off to a 6-0 start for the first time since 1996-97...Wheaton's six-game win streak to start the season is the fifth-best start to a season in program history.
