Wheaton wins the CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament with a 1-0 victory against Illinois Wesleyan

Wheaton, Ill. – The Wheaton women's soccer team won the 2014 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournament on Saturday with a 1-0 victory against Illinois Wesleyan in the tournament's championship match. Tonight's win gives Wheaton the CCIW's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament.

15615Sarah Frey (PICTURED LEFT) scored the lone goal on Saturday as she put the ball into the right corner of the net at the 10:08 mark of the match. Anna Seabolt set up Frey's goal as she blew past the Titans' defense and passed the ball to Kristin Rauh who headed the pass over to Frey who connected for her 10th goal of the year. Wheaton out-shot the Titans 12-5 in the first half as the Thunder held a 1-0 lead at halftime.

There were less opportunities for either team in the second half. Wheaton had seven shots in the final 45 minutes, including four shots on goal. IWU had two shots in the second half.

Wheaton goalkeeper Kelsey Graham made three saves in 90 minutes of work for Wheaton as she recorded her sixth shutout of the season. Dana Jourdan allowed just the first half goal as she made nine saves in the match for the Titans.

Wheaton had 19 shots in the match and the Titans took seven shots. Wheaton was awarded six corner kicks in the match and Illinois Wesleyan had two.  

The NCAA will announce the Division III Women's Soccer Tournament bracket on Monday at noon (CST) at www.ncaa.com. Wheaton has won 10 of the 12 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournaments that have been contested.

Note Worthy: Wheaton has won 11 of the 13 CCIW Women's Soccer Tournaments that have been contested…Wheaton's appearance in the upcoming NCAA Division III Tournament will mark the 18th consecutive appearance in the postseason for the Thunder…Thunder head coach Pete Felske has now won 445 matches in his 27-year career at Wheaton.
