Wheaton, Ill. – The 19th-ranked Wheaton women's basketball team picked up an 84-66 victory against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday in the Beth Baker Classic at Wheaton's King Arena. Wheaton is now 4-0 on the year and CMS is 1-2. The Thunder will travel to Hope College on Tuesday night for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff against the Flying Dutch.
Ellie Zeller led the Thunder with 27 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the field, with five assists. She also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, including six offense boards.
Sarah Drury scored 12 points, with seven rebounds off the Thunder bench
Moriah Reeves scored 11 points and
Kelly Lawson tallied eight points and
Chantal Meacham distributed nine assists. Zeller earned tournament MVP honors.
Hannah Considine contributed seven points to earn All-Tournament recognition.
Kris Brackmann led the Athenas with 31 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field Kyra Ray scored nine points, while Claire Donnelly tallied eight points with eight rebounds and six assists.
Wheaton posted a 46.9% (30-64) field goal percentage, with 42.9% (9-21) from three-point range and 65.2% (15-23) at the free throw line. The Athenas shot 36.1% (22-61) from the field, including 36.7% (11-30) from three-point range and 61.1% (11-18) at the charity stripe.
