Volleyball wraps up the weekend at Millikin's Linda Slagell Dig For The Cure Tournament

Decatur, Ill. - The Wheaton volleyball team concluded its participation in the two-day Linda Slagell Dig For the Cure Tournament, hosted by Millikin University. Wheaton earned a 3-0 victory against Blackburn in the morning and concluded the tournament with a 3-1 victory against University of Dubuque.

Wheaton is now 10-17 on the season, with the 3-1 record this weekend. The Thunder will return to conference play on Tuesday with a league contest at Augustana.

Wheaton defeated Blackburn 3-0 as the Thunder won 25-10, 25-15, 25-11. Emily Potts and Lindsay Stein each recorded six kills to lead Wheaton. Alley Lindner had a team-high 14 assists and Kelli Manning tallied 11 digs. Stein led Wheaton with five total blocks in the match.

The Thunder closed out the weekend with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-10, 25-19, 25-23) victory against Dubuque. Knowles tallied 17 kills with 18 digs. Japp recorded seven total blocks, while Torok and Knowles each had two service aces. Torok tallied 24 assists and Lindner had 21 assists in the match.

Head coach Brittany Smith noted of her team's effort in Decatur, "I'm very proud of our effort this weekend. I saw a lot of growth with our focus and consistent effort, and our defensive movement looked very good. Our hitters are developing more confidence with different sets and I'm excited about the versatility we are developing. Hopefully it will pay off as we face a big conference opponent on Tuesday."
