GAME STATS 2 Decatur, Ill. - The Thunder volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at Millikin University's "Linda Slagell Dig For The Cure Tournament". Wheaton lost to Millikin in a conference contest to open the tournament on Friday.
Wheaton earned a 3-1 victory against Simpson later in the day. The Thunder split today's two matches as Wheaton now owns a record of 9-17 on the year, with a 3-2 record in conference play. Wheaton will face Blackburn at 11:00 a.m.and Dubuque at 3:00 p.m. to conclude its participation in the tournament on Saturday.
The Big Blue defeated the Thunder 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-15) in the key conference match.
Shelby Knowles led Wheaton with seven kills and two service aces.
Hannah Japp had five kills and five total blocks.
Ashley Torok distributed 13 assists and tallied two service aces.
Wheaton rallied to defeat Simpson 3-1. Simpson defeated Wheaton 25-23 in the first set. Wheaton won the second set 25-16 and the Thunder earned a 25-12 victory in the third set. The "Orange and Blue" closed out the win with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.
Knowles and DeMoss each recorded 13 kills in the match. Knowles tallied 23 digs with two service aces. Torok had 26 assists and two aces, while
Alley Lindner added 15 assists. Japp posted seven total blocks, including two solos.
