Sherman, Texas – The Wheaton College (5-4) volleyball team posted a 3-1 record at the Austin College Classic this weekend. Wheaton opened the Tournament on Friday with a 3-2 come-from-behind win against Concordia-Texas. The Thunder swept Austin College 3-0 in Friday's second match. Wheaton dropped its opening match on Saturday in a 3-0 (15-25,22-25,18-25) loss to Southwestern University (Texas). Wheaton closed out the Tournament with a 3-0 win (25-17, 25-16, 25-11) against University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon
(WHEATON-CONCORDIA BOXSCORE) In the Wheaton win against Concordia the Tornados won the first set 25-17 and the Thunder responded to win the second set 25-17. Concordia took a 2-1 lead with a 26-24 win the third set, however, Wheaton tied the match up with a 25-16 win in the fourth set. The Thunder picked up the victory by winning the fifth set 15-8.
Shelby Knowles led the Thunder with 17 kills, and contributed 13 digs and two service aces.
Maddie McGinnis tallied 16 kills. Freshman setter
Ashley Torok distributed 29 assists, with three service aces and 13 digs.
Kelli Manning led Wheaton with 16 digs and 23 serve receptions.
Andy DeMoss had a team-high four block assists.
(WHEATON-AUSTIN BOXSCORE) Wheaton took the host Kangaroos of Austin College in three sets with a 25-13, 25-21, 25-13 victory. McGinnis led Wheaton with 18 kills, as
Andy DeMoss contributed nine kills and Knowles added eight kills. Torok had a team-high 30 assists.
Kelli Manning led Wheaton with 17 digs and she added three service aces.
Samantha Hedlund added 11 digs.
(WHEATON-SOUTHWESTERN BOXSCORE) In Saturday's 3-0 loss to Southwestern,
Emily Buyse led the Thunder with seven kills and Knowles added six.
Lauren Wilhite had a team-high 13 assists and
Ashley Torok contributed nine.
Samantha Hedlund had three service acces and she had a team-high 16 digs.
(WHEATON-DALLAS BOXSCORE) In the 3-0 win against the University of Dallas, McGinnis led Wheaton with 13 kills and Knowles contributed six. Torok had 15 assists and Wilhite had 11. Hedlund led the Thunder with 17 digs and
