Eighth-ranked Thunder men's soccer falls 2-0 to fifth-ranked Loras

GAME STATS Wheaton, Ill.- In a rematch of last year's National Quarterfinal matchup, the #5-ranked Loras College Duhawks again emerged victorious against the #8-ranked Wheaton Thunder. Similar to last year's regular season matchup, Loras was victorious by a score of 2-0. Loras improves to 7-0-2 while Wheaton falls to 5-3.

While Loras controlled the run of play through much of the first half, the Thunder were able to consistently quell the attack and keep the ball hemmed in to the midfield area. The Duhawks broke through at the 40:45 mark when Erik Berkowitz headed in a loose ball in the box. Chris Paulino was credited with the assist. Despite a 9-5 first half shot advantage, Loras led just 1-0 at halftime.

Wheaton was able to reverse the field of play in the second half but could not find the equalizer. Milkent made several tremendous saves for the Duhawks to keep them in the lead.

In the 88th minute, Loras' Tom Fluegel broke free behind the Wheaton front line and was able to beat Babb on the back end to push the score to 2-0, which would become the final score.  Loras has now won three consecutive games against Wheaton.

Wheaton will continue their home stand on Saturday night when they welcome the Bears of Washington (Mo.) University for a 7 PM kickoff.
