The Thunder volleyball team defeats #14-University of Chicago 3-1 on the road

The Wheaton College volleyball team earned its fifth consecutive win on Wednesday night with a 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 25-22) victory at University of Chicago (7-4). The Maroons entered the match ranked 14th in this week's AVCA Division III Coaches Poll.

Freshman Shelby Knowles led the Thunder in tonight's match with a match-high 17 kills, adding 16 digs and two service aces. Andy DeMoss (PICTURED LEFT) tallied 16 kills, and Maddie McGinnis recorded 11 kills with two service aces.

Emily Buyse had eight kills, with four total blocks and three service aces. Sophomore setter Lauren Wilhite led the Thunder with 50 assists. Kelli Manning led Wheaton with 18 digs

Wheaton rallied from a 19-20 deficit in the first set to win it 25-21. Wheaton led the Maroons 23-22 in the second set; however, Chicago scored the final three points of the set to win 25-23 and tying the match at 1-1.

The third set was tied on seven different occasions. The final occurrence was an 18-18 tie that saw Wheaton respond by out-scoring the Maroons 7-3 to win the set 25-21. Wheaton led for the majority of the decisive fourth set, including its largest lead of the set in a 21-15 advantage as Wheaton earned the 25-22 win.

Wheaton is now 9-4 on the year and has won eight of its last nine matches. The Thunder will return to action on Friday with two matches at the Concordia Fall Invitational.
