GAME STATS 2 Wheaton, Ill.- The Wheaton volleyball team continued their recent run of success with a pair of victories at the Wheaton Quad Match on Saturday afternoon. The Thunder opened the day with a straight sets victory over Monmouth College and concluded with a 3-0 win over Saint Mary's College (Ind.). With the victories Wheaton improves to 8-4 on the season.
In the opener, the Thunder utilized a pair of decisive sets to sweep the Scots by scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-16.
Maddie McGinnis led the Thunder attack with 15 kills and a .600 attack percentage.
Shelby Knowles recorded nine kills and
Emily Buyse tallied seven.
Lauren Wilhite recorded 43 of Wheaton's 45 assists in the match.
Kelli Manning led the Thunder with 11 digs while McGinnis had eight and Knowles and
Samantha Hedlund each had five digs.
Cora Nott led from the service line with two of Wheaton's four service aces.
The Thunder wrapped up the day with a dominant straight sets victory over Saint Mary's College (Ind.) by scores of 25-20, 25-10 and 25-15. Wheaton's attack was packed by
Shelby Knowles and McGinnis with 10 kills each. Wilhite dished out another 32 assists to bring her two-game total to 75. Manning again led the Thunder with 11 digs out of the back.
Emily Buyse recorded three of Wheaton's six service aces.

Brittany Smith noted of today's contests, "
We have been working all week on being more competitive in our play and I am so proud of the team for the mental toughness and focus they showed today. To go and dominate both matches in three straight sets shows great mental maturity and decisiveness." She concluded, "As our defense has been so strong, we've been able to focus more on our play at the net. We had consistent blocking and movement and our hitters were exceptional."
Wheaton will next be in action on Wednesday when they travel to the University of Chicago for a 7 PM showdown with the Maroons.
