Chicago, Ill. – The Thunder volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory at North Park University on Tuesday night in CCIW action. Wheaton earned a 25-21 win in set one and picked up a 25-14 victory in the second set. North Park was a 25-22 winner in the third set and Wheaton secured the match win with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set.
Wheaton broke a 13-13 tie in the first set, with three-unanswered points to take the lead for good. Buyse led the Thunder with three kills in the first set and Manning had six digs. The Thunder never trailed in the first set, with the guests taking an early 8-3 lead on the way to the 25-14 win. Knowles recorded four kills in the set.
North Park rallied to win the third set. Wheaton led the Vikings 18-16 when the hosts scored six out of eight points to command a 22-20 lead on the way to the 25-22 win. Knowles, DeMoss, Foggy and
Meghan Grant each had two kills in the set. Wheaton started out to a 16-10 lead in the fourth set. North Park rallied with six points to tie the match at 16-16. Wheaton responded with a 5-2 scoring surge to take a 21-18 lead, with Wheaton earning the eventual 25-20 victory. Knowles had four kills, with six digs in the set. Manning led Wheaton with seven digs in the set.
North Park falls to 10-20 on the year, with a 1-6 record in CCIW play. Wheaton is now 23-9 on the season, with a 3-2 record in CCIW action. The Thunder hosts a tri-match on Saturday in the final home contest of the season. Wheaton entertains Augustana at 10 AM, Augustana will take on UW-Whitewater at noon and Wheaton faces UW-Whitewater at 2 PM. Wheaton's seniors will be honored on "Senior Day" prior to the 10 AM match.
