Thunder volleyball team splits two matches at the Loras Invitational

The Wheaton volleyball team split its two matches on Saturday at the Loras College Invitational. Wheaton lost to UW-Stevens Point, 0-3 (16-25, 24-26, 14-25) in the first match of the day for the Thunder. Wheaton closed out the day with a 3-1 (25-15, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19) victory against UW-River Falls.
The Thunder volleyball team is now 20-8 on the year. Wheaton will return to conference play on Wednesday with a CCIW match at Illinois Wesleyan.

In Wheaton's 3-0 loss to UW-Stevens Point, The Thunder had 22 kills, with a .169 attack percentage and 19 assists. Shelby Knowles and Andy DeMoss led the Thunder with six kills apiece. Freshman setter Ashley Torok distributed 11 assists and Kelli Manning had a team-high 16 digs.

Knowles and DeMoss each tallied 13 kills to lead Wheaton in the 3-1 victory against UW-River Falls. Emily Buyse recorded 11 kills and Knowles added three service aces, with 12 digs. Lauren Wilhite and Torok each had 23 assists.

Thunder head coach Brittany Smith said of the day, "We did not execute our game plan very well in the match against UW-Stevens Point. We lost focus and played pretty sloppy in the first match, but we regrouped and I was excited to see us play up to our potential in the second match."
