Wheaton, Ill.- The Wheaton Thunder volleyball team had its five-match winning streak snapped at the hands of the sixth-ranked Elmhurst College Bluejays on Tuesday night. Elmhurst was victorious in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-19. Elmhurst improves to 24-4 on the season while Wheaton falls to 19-7. Wheaton will travel to Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday to participate in the Loras Invitational.
Set one was a back and forth affair in the early going before Elmhurst was able to close out the Thunder with the help of five hitting errors by Wheaton. Wheaton rebounded to lead in game two by a score a 10-9, but Elmhurst answered by scoring 16 of the next 20 points and won the second set 25-14. In the third set, Wheaton was able to rally from a 10-1 deficit to cut the lead to 14-13, but were unable to pull even and Elmhurst went on to win set three 25-19.
Shelby Knowles led the Wheaton attack with 12 kills and also anchored the defense with a team high 10 digs.
Ashley Torok registered 19 assists for the Thunder.
