Naperville, Ill. – The Wheaton volleyball team is competing at North Central College's "Tiffany Robinson Memorial Tournament" this weekend. Wheaton opened the tournament on Friday with a 3-1 victory against UW-Platteville and a 3-0 win against Finlandia later in the evening. On Saturday Wheaton will take on St. Mary's (Minn.) at 10 AM and face UW-Oshkosh at 2 PM in Gregory Arena on the North Central campus.
Wheaton earned a 3-1 victory against UW-Platteville (25-21, 25-14, 22-25, 25-19). Wheaton had a team attack percentage of .400 in the first set. The Thunder posted a .419 attack percentage in the second set, led by six kills from
Shelby Knowles, to jump out to a 2-0 lead on the Pioneers. Wheaton fell in the third set, posting a .097 attack percentage and the squad responded well in the second set with a .217 attack percentage.
Knowles led Wheaton in the victory against UW-Platteville, with 14 kills and a .355 attack percentage. She also contributed a team-high 15 digs and led the Thunder with four service aces.
Andy DeMoss and
Maddie McGinnis each tallied 10 kills for Wheaton and
Lindsay Stein added nine. Freshman setter
Ashley Torok distributed a team-high 35 assists. Wheaton recorded 54 kills, with a .275 attack percentage and 52 assists. As a team, the Thunder collected 60 digs, with eight service aces and five total team blocks.
Wheaton dominated Finlandia, 3-0 (25-9, 25-7, 25-10) in the victory.
Andy DeMoss led Wheaton with seven kills,
Madeline Taylor tallied six kills and
Emily Buyse had five kills. Torok had 16 assists and
Lauren Wilhite added 11.
Kelli Manning led the Thunder with 14 digs. Wheaton recorded 35 kills in the match with an exceptional .350 attack percentage and 31 assists, with 43 digs.
