Women's basketball drops CCIW tilt at Carthage 68-36

GAME STATS Kenosha, Wis.- The Wheaton women's basketball team was held scoreless for the first nine minutes of the game on Saturday and couldn't recover, dropping a 68-36 bout at CCIW-leading Carthage. Wheaton trailed by as many as many as 19 in the first half before trailing 33-17 at the halftime intermission. Wheaton is now 13-3 on the season and 4-2 in the CCIW. The Lady Reds improve to 14-3 and 6-0 in the CCIW.

Hannah Considine broke the game-opening 14-0 run by Carthage with a lay-up nine minutes and eight seconds into the game. Carthage would push the lead to 20-2 prior to coasting to the 33-17 halftime edge.

Wheaton shot 7-for-32 (21.9%) from the field in the first half and 2-for-11 (18.2%) from the three-point line. Carthage countered by shooting 13-for-29 (44.8%) from the field and 5-for-14 (35.7%) from the three-point line. Both teams struggled from the free throw line with the Thunder shooting 1-for-3, while Carthage was 2-for-5.

The Thunder opened the second half on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 13 points, but that would be the closest they would come as Carthage used an 11-0 run through the middle of the second half to put the game out of reach. The final margin would be Carthage's biggest lead of the night.
