Thunder women's basketball team tops Millikin 66-46

The Wheaton Thunder women's basketball team defeated Millikin University 66-46 on Saturday night in CCIW action inside Wheaton's King Arena. Wheaton is now 12-2 overall and 3-1 in CCIW play. The Thunder will host North Park on Wednesday night at 7:30 PM in the next scheduled contest for Wheaton.

Senior guard Brooke Olson led the Thunder with 20 points, four assists and five rebounds. Hannah Considine (PICTURED LEFT) scored 17 points, with 12 rebounds to register a “double-double” in points and rebounds. Breanna Bohlen scored 14 points for the hosts.

Wheaton shot 40.4% (21-52) from the floor with 36.4% (8-22) from three-point range and 80% (16-20) at the free throw line. Millikin posted a 27.6% (16-58) field goal percentage, with one three-pointer (1-for-15) and 65% (13-20) at the charity stripe.

Alyssa Saklak scored 18 points with three steals for the Big Blue. Holly Haskins scored 14 points, with eight rebounds and five steals.

Wheaton led the Big Blue 15-14 with 8:50 left in the first half, when Millikin put together a 10-2 run to take a 24-17 lead with four minutes left before halftime. Wheaton scored the final nine points of the first half, all in a span inf 2:24 to hold a 26-24 lead at halftime.

Wheaton extended its impressive run over the first four minutes and 10 seconds of the second half as Wheaton scored the first 14 points of the second session to take a 43-24 lead with 15:50 left in regulation. Wheaton 9-0 run to close the first half and the 14-0 run to open the second half gave the Thunder a string of 23 unanswered points. The Thunder led in in double digits for the remainder of the game, including a 23-point bulge that was the largest of the game at  63-40 with three minutes left in the contest.
