Women's basketball team has win streak snapped in a 71-61 loss at Millikin

Decatur, Ill. - The Thunder women's basketball team had its six-game win streak snapped on Wednesday night in a 71-61 loss at Millikin (13-7/5-4 CCIW). The Thunder will return to action on Saturday night when the squad hosts Elmhurst at 6 PM in King Arena. 

The two teams battled through a tightly contested first half that saw five ties and four lead changes. The Thunder led 33-30 at halftime. 

Wheaton remained in the lead over the first 12 minutes of the second half. The Thunder led 53-45 with 8:50 remaining in the game when the Big Blue responded with a 16-1 scoring run. Millikin's scoring burst gave the hosts its first lead since the seven-minute mark of the first half, with a 61-54 advantage with four minutes left in regulation.   

Senior guard Lindsey Brenneman led the Thunder with 17 points. Sophomore Maris Hovee scored 15 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, with five blocked shots. Elisabeth Potts shot 4-for-6 from the field in scoring 11 points. Brooke Olson distributed six assists.

Beth Wellbaum led four Millikin players in double digit point totals with 17 points. Heather Pruemer scored 14 points and Cecily Aldridge contributed 13 points. Julia Robert scored 11 points, with six assists.

Wheaton shot a 43.9% (25-57) field goal percentage, with 18.8% (3-16) from three-point range and 57.1% (8-14) at the free throw line. Millikin shot 46.2% (24-52) from the floor, with 57.1% (8-14) from behind the three-point arc and 83.3% (15-18) at the charity stripe.
