Chicago, Ill. – The Wheaton women's basketball team continued its undefeated start to the 2012-13 season on Wednesday night with a 77-62 victory at University of Chicago (1-3). Wheaton (4-0) will travel to Simpson College on Saturday night for a 7 PM tipoff against the Storm.
Wheaton never trailed in tonight's non-conference meeting with the Maroons as the Thunder jumped out to an early 11-3 lead. Wheaton's biggest lead of the first half was a 36-19 bulge with 57-seconds left before halftime. The Thunder led 36-22 at halftime.
The Maroons twice cut Wheaton's lead to six points in the second half; the final time was a 48-42 Thunder lead with 12:15 left in regulation. Wheaton countered with a 13-4 scoring run to extend its lead to 61-46 with 6:55 remaining in the game. The key run helped pace Wheaton to the win.
The Thunder received balanced scoring with five players in double digits. Senior guard
Brooke Olson led the Thunder with 20 points, making three three-pointers. Olson also added seven rebounds and five assists. Sophomore
Lauren Graham added 17 points, with seven rebounds.
Maris Hovee recorded a “double-double” with 13 points and 13 rebounds, also adding six blocked shots.
Breanna Bohlen scored 11 points, making three three-pointers, with five assists.
Wheaton shot 40.3% (25-62) from the field, including 35.3% (6-17) from three-point range and 75% (21-28) at the free throw line. The Maroons recorded a 38.6% (22-57) field goal percentage, with 37.5% (9-24) from behind the three-point arc and 75% (9-12) at the charity stripe.
Jenna Lillemoe led the Maroons with 14 points, while Christiane Murray scored 13 points, with nine rebounds. Chicago's Ellie Geiner scored 11 points, with six rebounds and three blocked shots. Caitlin Moore scored 10 points, with six assists and Morgan Donovan tallied 10 points.
