Women's basketball wins inaugural Beth Baker Classic with 62-42 win over St. Mary's (Ind.)

Wheaton, Ill.-
The Wheaton women's basketball team won the championship of the inaugural Beth Baker Classic on Saturday night with a 62-42 victory over Saint Mary's College (Ind.).  Brooke Olson led all scorers with 16 points on her way to being named the tournament MVP.  Breanna Bohlen was also named to the All-Tournament team.

Wheaton opened the game on a 13-2 run capped by a jumper by Ellie Zeller.  That lead would balloon to 27-9 when Bohlen converted a turnover into a lay-up with 5:58 remaining in the first half.  Wheaton would lead 30-16 at the end of the first half.

Behind the offense of Shanlynn Bias (15 points) the Belles cut the lead down to 10 points twice in the early minutes of the second half.  Wheaton would respond with a 7-0 run on a pair of layups by Bohlen and Moriah Reeves and a three-pointer by Zeller. 

The lead would stretch to as many as 23 points in the second half as Wheaton coasted to a 62-42 victory.

Maris Hovee
Reeves scored in double digits for the second straight night with 10 points to accompany four rebounds. Maris Hovee (PICTURED RIGHT) brought down a team-high eight rebounds to go along with five points and five blocks.  Bohlen and Lauren Graham each had nine points for the Thunder.

Wheaton held Saint Mary's to just 31.9% (15-47) from the field and only 1-3 from beyond the arc.  Wheaton forced 35 turnovers, 16 of which were steals.

Wheaton shot 41.7% (25-60) from the field and 16.7% (2-12) from the three-point stripe.  Wheaton was 62.5% (10-16) from the free throw line.  Wheaton won the battle in the paint, outscoring the Belles 38-12 in the lane.
